Last week, our Vice-Chair, Caz Blake-Symes, was having a family holiday in Cornwall.

Before going, she had arranged a visit to the Merlin Centre with Sarah Snell, the Centre’s Manager. Here is Caz’s account of her time spent at the Centre.

“ The first thing that struck us as my husband Martin and I went into the Centre is the warm and welcoming atmosphere. It is a light and modern building, with great access. We were greeted with a friendly welcome from the receptionist and waited in the café area, which was really busy and full of people waiting for therapies or who had just completed either a physio or hyperbaric oxygen session.

Sarah and I had met several times online, but this was our first face-to-face meeting, and it was great to meet her in person.

Sarah took Caz and Martin on a tour of the extensive purpose-built facilities. There is a well-equipped physio department staffed by experienced neuro physiotherapists. There is also a sensory room; Ayres Sensory Integration is available for children and young people with additional needs, which I believe is unique across the Neuro Therapy Network.

It was great to be shown around their Oxygen department by Belinda, which has three chambers

There is a beautiful Therapy garden including outside rehabilitation equipment.

A warm hydrotherapy pool is housed in a separate building. This hydrotherapy pool runs at between 34 and 37 degrees and has an impressive hoist system for those requiring it.

After the tour, we had the opportunity to meet other members of the team, and we stayed and had a light lunch in the Café.

We came away from the Centre being really impressed not only by the excellent facilities, but by the dedication and professionalism of the Merlin team.

Thank you for the warm welcome and for taking time out of your busy schedule to show us around”

The Merlin Centre covers the whole of Cornwall and supports over 700 people a year!
