World MS Day
30 May 2025
Every 5 minutes, someone, somewhere in the world is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). There are more than 2.8 million people living with MS around the world, including over 150,000 in the UK, where more than 7,000 new cases are diagnosed each year.
This World MS Day (30 May 2025) Neuro Therapy Network is joining forces with the MS International Federation (MSIF) to promote the My MS Diagnosis campaign calling for global action to improve early and accurate diagnosis, so more people can get the answers and care they deserve.
People living with MS often face long, frustrating journeys before receiving a diagnosis. In the UK, factors include limited public and healthcare professional awareness of MS symptoms, insufficient availability of specialist neurologists, and challenges in accessing necessary diagnostic tests and equipment. These delays can hinder early diagnosis and treatment, which is crucial for managing MS.
Although there is no cure for MS, early diagnosis enables people to begin treatments and therapies that help delay progression, reduce future disability, and improve their quality of life. A timely diagnosis also gives individuals more clarity to make informed decisions and adapt their lifestyle to manage MS.
Being told that you have MS can be confusing and bewildering. The therapy centres in our network are there for people and their families as soon as they receive a diagnosis, as well as supporting those who have been living with MS for many years.
Centres provide expert individualised support and a wide range of physical and holistic therapies to complement clinical treatment, as well as counselling, emotional support and an active social community. Collectively they support more than 15,000 people every week, providing invaluable life-enhancing therapies and services to their local communities.
